Portuguese Cork
What is Portuguese Cork and why use it?
- Portuguese cork is a beautiful fabric to work with, it has a very nice drape, and feels amazing!
- Cork is a natural, sustainable, PETA certified, vegan, and eco-friendly product.
- It is water resistant and has natural anti mildew and antibacterial qualities.
- I use upholstery grade, Touch Pro quality cork fabric.
- Vegetable based dyes and fair labour laws are used in the making of this unique product.
Where and How is Portuguese Cork made?
- Cork is imported from Portugal.
- The bark of the Cork Oak tree is peeled, without harming the tree.
- Each tree can be re-harvested every 9 years – making this a very sustainable product!
- Some cork forests are 2,000 years old.
How do I care for my Portuguese Cork products?
- This cork fabric has been treated with UV and abrasion protectants as well as scotch guard. It can be wiped clean with a soft cloth and weak soapy solution.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Products with dark and bright coloured dyes, can sometimes rub or wear off on sharp or folded corners.
- Much like a dark pair of jeans, the dyes can sometimes transfer to lighter fabrics.
- Because cork fabric comes from a natural wood source, the surface can be pitted with small holes and cracks. This is a normal quality of its appearance – not a flaw in the material.
- When folded, cork can sometimes form small superficial cracks. These cracks do not go through the backing and do not affect the structural integrity of the finished project.
