Our Materials

Every Meadow Song bag begins long before the first stitch, with materials chosen for their beauty, their story, and their ability to grow more beautiful with the years. These are the four fabrics at the heart of the collection, each one handcrafted with heart.

Portuguese Cork

Harvested by hand from the bark of cork oaks that are never felled, Portuguese cork is one of the world’s most sustainable materials, the trees simply regrow their bark, season after season. It is remarkably lightweight, naturally water resistant, and durable enough for everyday carry. Entirely vegan and endlessly varied, no two hides are ever quite alike, so every cork bag is naturally one of a kind.

Harris Tweed

Authentic Harris Tweed is handwoven by islanders in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland from pure virgin wool, the only fabric in the world protected by its own Act of Parliament. Generations of heritage craftsmanship live in every yard. Its rich, complex patterns are dyed and blended before spinning, giving each bag a depth of colour that simply cannot be printed, and an exceptional quality that lasts for decades.

Waxed Canvas

Rugged, water resistant, and quietly handsome, waxed canvas is the workhorse of heritage materials. It shrugs off weather and daily wear, and rather than looking worn, it develops a beautiful patina, every crease and fold recording the life you carry it through. A waxed canvas bag doesn’t age; it gains character.

Cotton Canvas

Timeless and versatile, cotton canvas has carried everything from artists’ sails to market hauls for centuries. Lightweight yet sturdy, practical yet beautiful, it takes colour and print wonderfully, which is why it appears throughout the collection in linings, panels, and everyday totes designed to be reached for again and again.

Handcrafted Construction

Every bag is handcrafted in Canada by Christine, drawing on more than thirty years of sewing experience. Each piece is made in small batches, often one at a time, on specialized machines, with attention paid to every seam, corner, and closure. It is quality over quantity in the truest sense: fewer bags, made properly, made to last.

Handcrafted with heart.
